The Edgelands Run
Calling all aspiring runners!
You may be aware that we are planning once again to run 110 miles around Morecambe Bay to support the school. It is hoped that these runners will be made up of determined parents, staff and friends of the school who all have one thing in common – their support and dedication to Storth School.
We are planning to organise the run slightly differently this year. Rather than a linear one that routes end to end, we will start two relays- one from Fleetwood and one from Walney Island on Saturday (or Sunday), the weekend of June 21st/ 22nd (the Summer Solstice). To explain this slightly more clearly. Some runners will start at Fleetwood, and a relay of runners will run to School; the others will relay from Walney Island and also meet at School. We hope both groups return to school at similar times, around 3 pm. We will then celebrate this massive achievement with a fun family BBQ. More details will follow later.
Distances and relay legs will be shared as soon as we have confirmation of the number of volunteer runners….. You may be keen to volunteer to run 10km, a marathon, or anything in between. We hope the relay teams will be made up of parents, or governors- anyone who is a friend of the School. So if you’d like to run and have a particular friend you would like to coerce to run with you, they will be more than welcome.
On Saturday/Sunday afternoon, we hope most of the children (and anyone else who wants to) will wish to join in, thus, we are planning two different distances and start points depending on the age and ability of the children. One group from Arnside then run (or walk) along the foreshore, alongside the final runners returning from the Fleetwood direction, and then up to School to finish by running around the running track. Those wishing for a longer challenge could join us near Heversham and run in with the last runners coming from Walney. More details will be given closer to the time, but it would be fantastic to see as many as possible joining in!
It is all about raising money!! We need to raise money to help fund the building for the Little Herons Nursery space. We hope the children will want to raise sponsorship; every little bit helps. Alternatively, you may wish to simply sponsor the whole event and show support for the runners in this way. Either way, anything you feel you can give will be greatly appreciated and will go solely to the PTA fund to help build the new classroom space.
As stated, more details will be given in the coming weeks, but please think about joining us, and let me know what distance you would be happy to run. We need at least 18 runners to make this viable, so please let me know by this Friday, 14th March, so I can begin properly planning this event.
